Start with the museum’s own admission rates#
Standard admission is €16 online or €14 at the museum. Online booking therefore costs more, not less: its appeal is arranging your visit ahead. The reduced rate is €11 and is sold on site. Check your eligibility before buying a full-price ticket or a reseller package.
Would a Thursday evening suit your trip?#
Thursday late-opening admission is €12 online or €10 on site for visits starting at 6pm. The museum closes at 9:45pm and last entry is at 9pm. This can suit an evening art visit, but arriving near last entry leaves much less time than booking the start of the late period.
Free entry still needs the right reservation#
Admission is free for under-18s and eligible EU or EEA visitors aged 18–25, including the specified long-term EU residents. The first Sunday is free for everyone, but a visit-slot reservation is mandatory. A free-admission category does not establish that a slot remains for your date.
What changes during the renovation?#
The museum’s public areas are being renovated from March 10, 2026, through summer 2028. The official notice says the museum remains open and collections and exhibitions remain accessible. Access routes are modified, so use the entrance shown on your ticket instead of automatically joining the most visible queue.
Timed-ticket visitors use the Quay Entrance, while the Forecourt Entrance serves the listed priority categories and other specified visitors. Accessible entry is through the Forecourt. Read the current instructions before travelling; a reseller ticket does not remove the need to use the correct entrance.
Choose admission alone or add independent audio#
The featured ticket-and-audio bundle adds a downloadable WeGoTrip museum route to admission. Its current merchant price is €25.88, above the museum’s own online rate. It suits someone who actually wants that independent commentary; a phone, earphones and an in-person guide are not supplied.
The entrance-only reseller product currently lists €21.88. Its ticket covers the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions subject to availability, but excludes security-queue skipping and names a separate exhibition exclusion. Check the exact exhibition you want before purchasing, rather than treating general museum entry as access to every show.
Compare your options#
| Option | What to check |
|---|---|
| Official admission | Choose the museum’s own ticketing channel for the admission baseline, free-entry categories and applicable evening rates. Compare a reseller total against that rate, not against an invented discount. |
| Ticket with app commentary | Pay for the audio bundle only if you want its self-guided museum route. The app commentary is independent of the museum; the bundle’s higher total is not evidence that ordinary admission is cheaper through a reseller. |
Plan your visit#
Use the official museum ticketing link when comparing your options. The museum warns about mirror sites, street sellers and misleading queue-jumping offers; no ticket is a reason to ignore security checks.
Download your ticket and check its designated entrance before arriving. During the works the museum strongly recommends online booking, and its instructions ask you to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled slot.
Frequently asked questions#
Is booking online cheaper than buying at the museum?
No: the standard online rate is €16, while the museum desk rate is €14. Online booking is about arranging the visit ahead, not an automatic saving.
Is Orsay closed during the renovation?
The official renovation notice says the museum remains open and its collections and exhibitions remain accessible. The change visitors need to plan around is the entrance arrangement.
